Dotinurad is a URAT1-selective urate reabsorption inhibitor that blocks URAT1, a transporter responsible for reabsorbing uric acid in the kidneys. By inhibiting this transporter, Dotinurad increases the excretion of uric acid in urine and helps lower serum uric acid levels. It is designed to selectively target URAT1 without affecting other transporters like ABCG2, OAT1, and OAT3, which also affect uric acid secretion. This high selectivity makes Dotinurad effective in lowering uric acid levels while minimizing the risk of disrupting uric acid secretion pathways.
